Beauty

Fashions change and new customs devised,
Naked bodies are molded anew,
Simple garments are fastened and dyed,
Skin uncovered then hidden from view.

On such tides adolescence is tossed
Up against sedimentary truth,
In a contest assuredly lost
Among ages and ages of youth.

In our cult veneration of dust,
Of whoever that he or she was,
Who had shone the most brightly amongst
Stringent limits of natural laws.

Small surprise that we wonder about
If that beauty was savage or soft,
Was chaste innocence part of the charm,
Or was sex what propelled them aloft?

Did they gain adoration or fame,
Was it seen as a gift or a curse,
Were the bards of that age drawn to praise
Or condemn them in slanderous verse?

On and on, but my vision does drift
To a woman in bright middle age,
With her casual beauty and charm
And a carefree glance to engage.

For she moves at a different pace
That good diet and exercise bring
And inspires both poets and bards,
So undoubtedly worth worshiping.

See the snobs who unwisely rebuff
Such profuse veneration as base
Have not seen as she stretches and runs,
Thus imbuing all progress with grace.

Unconcerned they have already lost
Let the teenagers rush as they've been.
As she jogs through the sunlight a god
And with everything still left to win.
